The Metropolitan Transit Authority of Harris County (METRO) will offer complimentary rides to and from the polls on Election Day, Tuesday, Nov. 3, giving Houston-area residents a free way to exercise their right to vote.
Riders can receive a complimentary ride by showing their voter registration card to a METRO operator or fare inspector when boarding. The offer is available only on Election Day and applies across several METRO services, including METRORail, local bus routes, METROLift, METRO curb2curb and Community Connector.
“Every voter deserves the opportunity to make their voice heard, and transportation should never stand in the way,” said METRO Board Chair Elizabeth Gonzalez Brock. “I want to thank Mayor Whitmire for his continued leadership and for continuing this partnership. METRO is proud to do its part by helping Houston-area residents get to the polls and exercise one of our most important civic rights.”
Riders should note that regular fares apply during early voting and on all other days. Voters are encouraged to plan their trips in advance using METRO’s Trip Planner at RideMETRO.org and confirm their polling locations before traveling.
