Former San Francisco Deputy Police Chief Ann Mannix and her 24-year-old daughter Katherine will be laid to rest Friday.
Ann Mannix died at the hands of her estranged husband, Kevin Mannix, who also shot their 24-year-old daughter before turning the gun on himself.
Ann Mannix spent 34 years with the San Francisco Police Department, retiring as a deputy chief.
She rose through the ranks of the department, becoming the first woman to join and then lead the SWAT team.
“Ann really got out there and made the most of her career,” former SFPD Interim Chief Toney Chaplin said. “She was a fierce advocate for women in law enforcement and for women getting roles they were traditionally denied.”
Mannix’s 24-year-old daughter, Katie, was studying to be a nurse like her older sister, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.
The service for Ann and Katherine, or “Katie,” is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Ignatius Church.
It is open to the public as space allows and will be livestreamed on the church’s website.
In a statement, the San Francisco Police Department expressed gratitude for the outpouring of support.
