The body of a missing boater has been found after multiple days of searching Georgia's Lake Sinclair, officials say.

Officials with the Baldwin County Public Safety Dive Team say that its members and others with the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, Putnam County Fire Rescue, and Baldwin County Fire Rescue used sonar technology and underwater robotic equipment to try and find the missing individual.

Putnam County Sheriff Howard Sills confirmed with CBS News Atlanta that 76-year-old George Williams of Milledgeville was found on Thursday afternoon.

Sills said that a boater found Williams' empty boat tied to a railroad trestle close to Haslam's Marina on Wednesday morning.

Investigators say Williams may have suffered a medical emergency or fell into the water accidentally. An investigation in his death is underway.

"Please keep the missing boater's family, friends, and all personnel involved in the search in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time," the dive team wrote on Facebook.
